The Elekit TU-8550 is an all-tube preamplifier kit with a built-in phono stage, housed in a chassis sized to match the TU-8900 amplifier. Its phono section uses a CR-type RIAA equaliser circuit, valued for its clean, easygoing sound, and a quad volume control keeps the noise floor low. High gain, needed for quiet sources, can otherwise introduce noise - the TU-8550 solves this with a system that lowers gain as volume is turned down (to as little as 1.4x) and raises it (up to 7x) as volume increases, keeping residual noise consistently low. Fast diodes in the power supply, a slow-start MOSFET circuit, and LDO-regulated heater supplies all further reduce noise and hum.
