The Tang Band W4-1720 4" Underhung Midbass Driver is a meticulously engineered transducer that delivers exceptional clarity and detail in the critical midbass region. Designed for audiophiles and DIY enthusiasts, this compact driver excels in applications where space is at a premium but sonic performance cannot be compromised. It is ideally suited for use in small sealed or ported enclosures, satellite speaker systems, and high-fidelity two-way designs where a natural, articulate low-end is required.
At the heart of the W4-1720 lies an underhung voice coil architecture, which ensures remarkably low distortion and consistent motor force throughout the cone’s travel. The paper cone, chosen for its lightweight and well-damped properties, works in harmony with a ferrite magnet motor to produce a clean, uncoloured sound signature. With a total Q factor (Qts) of 0.42 and a mechanical Q (Qms) of 2.33, the driver offers a balanced response suitable for a variety of enclosure alignments. The 5mm linear excursion (Xmax) allows for surprising output from such a compact frame, while the exceptionally low voice coil inductance (Le) of 0.04 mH contributes to extended high-frequency response and excellent transient behaviour. The driver measures 125.7 mm in overall diameter with a cutout of 95.3 mm and a mounting depth of 82.6 mm, making it a versatile choice for custom builds. With a sensitivity of 89 dB and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, the W4-1720 is an outstanding solution for achieving detailed, natural midbass in compact, high-performance loudspeaker systems.
