The Dayton Audio ND91-8 is a compact 3.5-inch full-range driver that delivers remarkably clear and detailed sound across the entire frequency spectrum. Its aluminium cone construction ensures low mass and high rigidity, resulting in fast transient response and reduced distortion for a natural, open presentation. This driver is ideally suited for use in small, sealed enclosures where space is at a premium but audio quality cannot be compromised. It excels in applications such as desktop speakers, portable Bluetooth systems, soundbars, and other compact audio projects where a single driver must cover the full range without the need for a separate tweeter.
Technically, the ND91-8 features an 8-ohm impedance with a DC resistance of 7.8 ohms and a sensitivity of 82.1 dB at 2.83V. The total Q factor of 0.47, combined with a mechanical Q of 4.29 and an electrical Q of 0.53, provides balanced performance ideal for small enclosures. The maximum linear excursion (Xmax) of 5.1 mm and a displacement volume (Vd) of 12.2 allow for surprising bass extension from such a compact driver. The aluminium voice coil wire and a 1.24 mH inductance contribute to efficient power handling and controlled high-frequency response. With a nominal diameter of 88.9 mm, a depth of 56.4 mm, and a baffle cut-out diameter of 85 mm, this driver is easy to integrate into custom designs. The ND91-8 offers an excellent balance of size, efficiency, and sound quality for discerning builders.
